With the upcoming Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Progressive Safe System (PSS) deadline fast approaching, it's vital for fleet operators to stay ahead of the curve. However, if you find yourself needing more time to install the new safety measures, there’s good news from Transport for London (TfL). They’ve added a PSS grace period offering an extra window to get compliant and make sure your vehicles meet all the requirements without the last-minute rush.
From 28 October 2024 to 4 May 2025, fleet operators can apply for a six-month grace period, allowing additional time to fit the Progressive Safe System and secure an HGV safety permit.
However, this isn’t an automatic extension.
Operators must submit an application for each specific vehicle and provide proof that fitting works have been arranged for after the 28 October deadline but before the grace period ends on 4 May 2025. Acceptable forms of evidence include appointment confirmations, purchase orders, or any documentation demonstrating the scheduled installation of PSS equipment.
With 175,000 vehicles expected to need PSS kit fitting, it’s not surprising that this grace period has been brought into effect but there’s only so much extra time that can be added. Sentinel Systems understands the pressure operators are facing and is committed to helping fleets stay on the road. We’re still taking bookings for PSS fitments and whether it’s existing vehicles in operational service that need their systems topping up, or new vehicles that require complete fit-outs, our expert engineers are ready to make sure your fleet makes the grade.
Our team is here to help you navigate the grace period process and ensure everything is in place to meet the extended deadline. Don’t leave it until it’s too late – get in touch with us today to arrange your PSS installation and secure your place before the grace period runs out.
